What a lot of Butterflies!

Good Morning to you all!

Thanks for visiting 'SIBOL' today.  I have a new 'Sunshine Blanket' to show you and I would love you to scroll down to 'older post'. Our Blog is very fast moving, we always have such a lot to show you and I do like to give everyone their own little space.

Along with the Blanket I received from Sally this morning, Fee very kindly sent me some Butterflies from a Lady called Sherine. Sherine your Butterflies are absolutely beautiful and I am very grateful to you for spending such a lot of time on them. They are made in such wonderful colours and these are going to be so useful for our Sunshine Blankets. It's surprising how we get down them. I couldn't resist moving my white tree in to the Conservatory this morning and displaying your cute Butterflies.
This tree is usually in my Lounge adorned with gold and white Butterflies to match my room. As I had a pastel Blanket to show you I thought they would match perfectly which they did.

If anyone else wants to make Butterflies for our SIBOL Stash. May I give you Netties Link. She is over in Australia and if you scroll down on her Blog you will see a brilliant video tutorial making them. These Butterflies are always attached to our Blankets for the Elderly. They really are talking points in the homes.
Here's the Link for Nettie.

Let's take a look at Sherine's Butterflies now. They are superb, thank you very much!

Well that's it for now.
I hope you have enjoyed looking at these pretty Butterflies, please don't forget to

I just love the border that she has added to the Squares, it really finishes it off beautifully. Love the combination of colours too. What a treat!

SIBOL was featured in 'Simply Homemade' January 2013.

Good Afternoon and  Welcome!

Here I am sitting in the kitchen with my hook in one hand, trawling the internet at the same time.  When suddenly I came across this article about our Group. I had no idea we were featured in Simply Homemade back in January 2013. What a great surprise!
I have copied it and I would like to show you now. Here it is.......

What better way to kick-start a brand new year than by using your craft skills to make a difference?

If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to do a bit of charity work, then sign yourself up to the Sunshine International Blankets of Love project, which is dedicated to knitting and crocheting throws for elderly people in the UK.
Set up by Sue in 2010 in memory of her grandmother, the project calls for arts and crafts fans to knit or crochet 6x6” straight-edged squares in any design or colour and send them in to Sue (known as the Queen of SIBOL!), with all Sunshine Blankets then being donated to nursing homes around the country.
There are also a set of challenges set out for 2013, where crafters are called on to make a blanket or squares along a set theme, such as gardening, fruit and vegetables or wartime.
If you’d like to get involved, pick up your needles and hooks! You can also follow the group’s activities on Ravelry or Flickr, where there are lots of great pictures of the blankets that have been stitched.
And, if you get yourself a copy of issue 25 of Simply Homemade (out in shops right now!), you’ll find a fab tutorial by Sally Shepherd for crocheting your own granny square blanket, so why not have a go and donate your handiwork to SIBOL?

This is brilliant thanks Simply Homemade!

I would also like to thank you for the enquiries I have received about our Group today. I do hope you will join us. Blankets and Squares are always most welcome! Sue on sueatpigsty@talktalk.net for all enquiries.

Four new Sunshine Blankets!

Good Morning!

I'm very pleased to be showing you two new Blankets which I have put together over the last couple of days. The '50' Squares in these two Blankets came from 'Grace' who is 80 and lives in Sheltered Accommodation here in Birmingham. If you remember 'Anne' very kindly made up two Blankets recently. Grace had actually made 100 in total. Fabulous! Thank you Grace.

What I like about these Squares is that the yarn is doubled up and incorporating the white really gives them a marbled look and the Blankets are so warm and chunky.

I found some pretty Butterflies to dress them up too!

014

015

I'm really pleased how these Blankets have turned out.

100 Squares in total made by 80 year old Grace.
Thank you so much.

These pretty Blankets will be delivered to the Elderly.

Always something new to see!

Good Afternoon,

I do hope you will scroll down our previous posts. I have two Blankets to show you now and underneath this post you will see three beautiful Daffodil Squares that came in from Marje. Underneath
Marje's post I am showing you the latest Challenge Blanket. 'Autumn Leaves'. I wouldn't want you to miss anything.

I am very pleased to be showing you two beautiful Blankets which Pippa has assembled for us. The Squares were made by Grace who lives in Sheltered accommodation at Rowheath House.  Grace is in her 80's. She sits crocheting away for our SIBOL project and I'm so pleased that it gives her something to do. The Squares are made in double yarn and they are so pretty.

Let's take a look at the Blankets now.

Grace in her 80's at one of the homes I visit has made these Squares. pippa has assembled them into two beautiful Blankets. Thank you!

but I will be writing to thank her for the Squares.

These are the other 50 I received.

The final three Daffodil Squares arrive today!

Good Afternoon,

As you know we have been working terribly hard over the last year making Daffodil Squares for Marie Curie.  My aim is to make 9 Daffodil Blankets for their 9 Hospices up and down the Country.

I have 8 Blankets upstairs which are ready and I am waiting for one to come in from wilfi in the Netherlands which will be July time. Once this has arrived I shall send the 9 off to them.

Meanwhile I have been collecting Daffodil Squares to make 1 more Blanket which will be auctioned  on EBAY. jessiebonbon is going to make the final Blanket up for me. Today I had the last 3 Daffodil Squares arrive from Marje  here in the UK and I am terribly grateful to you for making them. They really are superb and are going to look a treat in the final Blanket. Thank you so much.

Marje (UK) The final 3 Daffodil Squares have arrived. Thank you!

So pretty!

'Autumn Leaves'

Hi everyone!

408 'Autumn Leaves' - 'Leaves Challenge'.

I'm always so excited when a new Challenge is 'done and dusted' so to speak. I had such fun collecting the Squares for our 'Leaves' Challenge and once again we have received a great variety of different designs. The Leaves have been Crocheted and  Knitted in wonderful colours.

I can't wait to show you.

This Blanket comprises of 30 Squares and I Crocheted the border from Edie Eckman's book 'Around the Corner Crochet Borders'. This is an excellent book and even I can understand it. The border is Number 21. I tried to pick up the rusty colour from one of the Squares and hope they look like leaves!

Thanks to everyone for sending Squares for this Challenge.

I'm afraid I can't do one of my Slide Shows at the moment, because Flickr has changed every time I copy and paste the html into the Slide Show site it doesn't work. I'm not a happy bunny this evening.
Sorry about that.

Why do they have to change things?
Everything was great before.

I hope you like 'Autumn Leaves'.
Thanks to everyone who contributed Squares for this Challenge once again.

Thanks for visiting me this evening.
