Good Afternoon and Welcome!
Here I am sitting in the kitchen with my hook in one hand, trawling the internet at the same time. When suddenly I came across this article about our Group. I had no idea we were featured in Simply Homemade back in January 2013. What a great surprise!
I have copied it and I would like to show you now. Here it is.......
What better way to kick-start a brand new year than by using your
craft skills to make a difference?
If one
of your New Year’s resolutions is to do a bit of charity work, then sign
yourself up to the Sunshine International Blankets
of Love project, which is dedicated to knitting and crocheting
throws for elderly people in the UK.
Set up by Sue in 2010 in memory
of her grandmother, the project calls for arts and crafts fans to knit or
crochet 6x6” straight-edged squares in any design or colour and send them in to
Sue (known as the Queen of SIBOL!), with all Sunshine Blankets then being
donated to nursing homes around the country.
There are also a set of
challenges set out for 2013, where crafters are called on to make a blanket or
squares along a set theme, such as gardening, fruit and vegetables or wartime.
If you’d like to get involved, pick up your needles and hooks!
You can also follow the group’s activities on Ravelry or Flickr, where there
are lots of great pictures of the blankets that have been stitched.
And, if you get yourself a copy
of issue 25 of Simply Homemade (out in shops right now!), you’ll find a fab
tutorial by Sally Shepherd for crocheting your own granny square blanket, so
why not have a go and donate your handiwork to SIBOL?
This is brilliant thanks Simply Homemade!
I would also like to thank you for the enquiries I have received about our Group today. I do hope you will join us. Blankets and Squares are always most welcome! Sue on sueatpigsty@talktalk.net for all enquiries.
