Blue White

Here they are, my squares for the blue white challenge:

I know, the dark yarn seems to be black. But it's darkest blue you can imagine!
The top right square is the Vintage Lace Square. You can find the pattern HERE.
The other squares are from the book "200 crochet blocks" by Jan Eaton.

I'll send them next week to the UK!

Flowers & Blue & White

Hi everyone

I have just posted these off to Mrs Twins today.  It would be interesting to see how long they take to get to her.  I haven't heard anything more about ash clouds, so hopefully flights are per normal.

The squares are not fancy, I was a little short of time dealing with a wedding.  But I just had to send something!!!!  And there is always a use for the plainer things in life.

Mrs Twins, keep an eye out for a tiny little bag inside the bigger bag

Bye for now

Our SIBOL Squares travel such a long way. / Ta - Dah! Introducing SIBOL No. 11

Hi Everyone!

I made a map today of the World and plotted where my SIBOL Contributors live....... (as well as the map allows me!).
Those lovely little 6" Squares travel such a long way to the UK They are pretty tired when they arrive,

Where were my SIBOL Squares made?
Make yours @ BigHugeLabs.com

http://bighugelabs.com/map.php

I give them a lot of love when they arrive!

2009 was a very special year for me. In April/May time I joined Flickr and in September I made my first blog. Kate, The Garden Bell had just started hers and if I remember correctly she was saying to me 'Why not start one?' What would I ever write about? Well my 'Mindless Ramblings' soon took over and so did my Crocheting. Project after Project, Ripple after Ripple......the crocheting went on and on....... Christmas was a lovely time making those gorgeous gold Butterflies and Birdies. But I soon came to realise that there is only so much you can crochet for either yourself, your family or your home. 'Mrs Twins' was so much fun.

I had been thinking about making Blankets for the Elderly in Memory of my Grandmother and as it was before Christmas I thought I would leave it until the New Year. This I did. At the start of January I asked my friends in Blogland and on Flickr if they wanted to help me by donating 6" Squares. Well I was surprised that my friends thought it was a good idea and soon after the Squares started coming in. Soon after I set up 'SIBOL' my 'spin-off blog'. Even the name was a joint effort!

Molly was the first person to send me some Squares then
I sent myself Squares..... then

Please forgive me if I have left anyone out! (Please tell me).

All these friends in 12 countries Canada, Puerto Rico, USA, UK, Netherlands, Austria, Spain, France, Australia, Latvia, Gibraltar, Singapore
Have sent me Squares across the miles to help me make Blankets for the Elderly.
I have now made with your help 11 'SIBOL' Blankets. 11 x 25 Squares in each = 275.
I have just counted the Squares up as promised weeks ago. To my amazement I have 459
So in total I have now received 'since January' 734!
Thank you all so much.
So I have enough for plenty more Blankets.
Now you might think that sounds frightening, 'what a lot of work', but it doesn't take me all that long and to be honest there isn't anything else I would rather be doing so I'm going to plod along at my own pace enjoying the ride so to speak.

I have to thank my friends in the USA, you are in the lead sending Squares in, then followed by UK. But I shall have to get the figures for that one for you.

Over the last few days I have had some remarkable emails from Ladies who visit SIBOL. I'm just 'amazed!'. Their comments are very much appreciated.
They enjoy looking at the different Squares and they do enjoy the music too (I always wonder whether you hear it okay). I wanted to find some relaxing music while visiting SIBOL and I've had a few people asking what the music is. If you scroll right down to the bottom of SIBOL you will see the music list.

I can't thank you all enough for your support. Many thanks.

Please do keep sending your Squares, I enjoy making the Blankets and we are having a wicked time on SIBOL. If anyone wants to 'team blog' with us you are most welcome!

Here's SIBOL No. 11 -  'Sun theme No. 3'
If you don't see your sun square please keep looking there are still some 'sun theme' Blankets to put together! They are colour co-ordinated now so they will be going by the colours.

SIBOL No. 11 'Sun theme Blanket' No.3.

Here I am! Wearing Bethels' sunglasses!!..............>

I have now made 11 Sunshine Blankets of Love for the Elderly. These 3 are made from Squares sent in for our 'Sun Challenge'. If you don't see your Square it will be coming up very soon in the next 'Sun Blankets' there are still more to come ! :)

I hope you have all had a good weekend. The weather has been beautiful in the UK.

Have a nice evening!

Isn't it a great example? This blanket shows how beautiful blue and white can be.

Have a great weekend!

Flowers, Bumble Bees and Daises!! Friday Fun in the Garden!

Well what a Friday!

It all started at around 8.15 am this morning.  Mr. Postie actually knocked the door today! Not the usual Postie who walks the round,  a special one.  The one that has the red van! The one that carries the parcels on his van.  I had to sign for a box.

Mr. Twin and Little Miss Twins, both of them I add,  were interested to see where the box had come from. 'Spain' I said.  OOh! It's Pilar (Pertinitaco). We read the outside of the box and had a giggle.

'The Journey of the Squares' and how they travelled across the sea in a plane, through those dreadful 'ash clouds', landed safely in the UK  and then went in a dark truck and travelled to my home here in the UK.

The Squares were from Pilar, (Flickr Pertinitaco) and wow! What lovely Squares!!  The Little Squares were very tired after their long......journey so I took them outside to play in the Sunshine. Look what I saw on the Squares!! Little Bumble Bees I thought I heard a buzzing sound...........

Now would you believe that? Bumble Bees had landed on Pertinitacos' Squares!!! Buzz! Buzz! Aren't they just so cute!

Beautiful Flowers, Thank you Pertinitaco!

They played a little outside in the Garden and rested and now I'm pleased to say they feel better after their long journey which took 6 days all the way from Spain.

Thank you so much Pilar, (Flickr Pertinitaco) such lovely Squares. You are very kind making these for the SIBOL project.

Bethel of Bethania often makes us rhymes on Flickr the other day she said........

Welcome to our Squares Family, little squares...don't be afraid... after your rough trip in the big truck...A really nice lady lives here...she has a fettish for squares...She will love you,She will straighten you out again...She will touch you, feel you, smell you,Then she will work her magic with you each & everyone of you...The nice lady... will find a very special place for you...With her magic fingers... you will find a permanent home in one of her beautiful blankets...Look at the comfort you feel in those blankets all there to Welcome you...Then everyone will say... you all look FANtasMaGoRIcal together...You will be so HAPPY... the nice lady will be so Happy too...So don't be afraid... The nice lady is a very special person... and loves you.

Well Pilar, I'm terribly sorry this Slide Show has taken so long I've been so busy today getting ready for the weekend.  I've been desperate to get the photos on Flickr for you and the Slide Shows made.  I do hope you will sit back now and enjoy your Slide Show!

I hope all our other Sibolettes and Followers (new and old) will enjoy the Slide Show too!

Have a good weekend everyone and thanks for visiting SIBOL today.  Ooh! We have a new 'team blogger' Louise please go back and view her post.  She's relatively new to Blogland and I'm sure she'd love your support on her Blog.

If you put your mouse on the individual Squares (if you have time) you will be able to read the text. The Journey of the Squares!'.

Hello Ladies

I just thought that I would say Hi and introduce myself to you all as Sue invited me to join the team and I was more than happy to. I live near Knaresborough in a small rural village with my family.  http://www.lallylou-lou.blogspot.com/
 IMG_1247
I started to crochet over 12 years ago when my son was born. I stumbled upon Sues blog last week and now here I am. I have only really been blogging since January and still expected to be talking to myself (do that a lot)However I have met so many lovely, kind and nurturing people from all over the world and I am amazed and thrilled. Anyway the reason why I am here today is to show my efforts towards the project.
 IMG_1283
This is such a great idea and one to which I am delighted to contribute. Having been involved in many a charity in the past I know how hard it can be and how much work it can take. I have contributed 4 squares (so far, I will do more promise) but Sue, you put them all together and that takes a huge effort. So I am glad to be part of this wonderful community.
 Lally lou
Thank you for welcoming me and I look forward to chatting with everyone. Now where is that blue and white yarn?

 If you have anything you would like to say about SIBOL please feel free.
If you have a blog, you can 'team blog' with us. You may just want to say how nice some Squares are, you may want to post your own SIBOL Squares on here, or you may just want to say what you think of the Blankets, your thoughts on all the beautiful Squares used. It's entirely up to you. All are most welcome!

Thanks Kim, I really love your Squares and I am most grateful. Your Squares are in the Slide Show. Enjoy everyone!

Monday, 17 May 2010

Hi Everyone,

Firstly I would like to thank Sue for inviting me to write a blog post here. I think Sue's idea of the Sunshine International Blankets of Love is a wonderful idea. Not only is it providing such a great service it is a lovely way for us all to meet others from all around the world.

My name is Jenny, I live in Cambridgeshire in the UK. I have 3 grown up children, the youngest two are boy/girl twins. I am also the proud Grandmother to my 2 grandsons.

I love crochet and am finding the internet a great way to get inspiration, I seem to be getting more ideas than I have time available, though I'm sure that can be said for us all! It was only yesterday that I plucked up the courage to start my own blog and now today I am guest blogging here, boy things move fast around here!

Anyway enough about me, here are the squares I have made for the Blue and White challenge.

I made them using the pattern for the 'Trip around the world granny' from the book 50 Sensational Crochet Afghans & Throws. I posted them to Sue this morning so hopefully she will get them in the next few days.

Before I go I would just like to thank Sue for all her hard work in organising all this and putting together such lovely blankets from the wonderful squares she receives.

Bye for now
Jenny

Flickr Fun!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks so much for visiting 'SIBOL' today!  May I say hello to all our new Followers! It's always nice to welcome new friends.

 I also wanted to say thanks to Elke and Sally 'Chunky Hooker' for the most beautiful Flower Squares  received over the last few days, they are all so lovely.

May I just remind you that not only do we have the 'SIBOL' blog here, but we also have a list of links over to the right. The names listed are our 'team bloggers'.  Please click on their names and visit their beautiful blogs. Each one so different, but all as good as each other! I'm sure you will enjoy them.

I want to talk about Flickr photos.  That's the way I got into blogging. I first of all put my photos on to Flickr in May last year.  Since then I haven't looked back because I have met so many wonderful Friends on there, it's such great fun. We all have something in common too, whether it's Crocheting or Knitting or whatever you choose.

Flickr photos plays a very important part in our Crafting Community.  Flickr  is the best way to store, sort, search and share your photos online.  Flickr helps you organize the huge mass of photos you have and offers a way for you and your friends and family to tell stories about them.  The best way to learn about Flickr is to upload some photos.  You can edit them, organize, keep your photos private or go public on them. Add contacts, or make those contacts Friends.  You can  'add notes'  to photos. For example this is the latest Blanket of mine. Now if you click on the photo it will take you to  another photo.  Now can you see all the little 'add notes!'.  I asked each one of my SIBOL Contributors to 'add note' to their Square.  Now why I'm bringing this to your attention is  because very often while meeting new Friends to SIBOL, I find out that they don't have photos on Flickr because they've never heard about it.  So today I thought I would tell you about it.

This is my 2nd 'sun' theme Blanket. After this one the 'sun' themed Blankets are going to be 'colour grouped'. Please 'add note' if you see your Square.

Flickr also has lots of Groups, whether it's for Crocheting, Knitting, or whatever you choose to put in on the search. We have a SIBOL Group.  Blankets for the Elderly 2010.

Flickr is wicked, it's such fun! Please check it out and let me know what you think of it. I always give you the link when I receive your Squares because Flickr is the place where I first of all put your Squares. From this I can go on to putting them into the SIBOL Blog or even put them into sets on Flickr and then make them into Slide Shows for you. I wouldn't want you to miss out so have a go!

Then of course a step up from that is Big Huge Labs.  This is a great site where you can make mosaics which you can then load up to Flickr. Also you can test yourself on whether you can instantly recognize your contacts photos, make Scout posters (these are posters made up of photos which have hit Explore on Flickr)  and lots more fun things to do.  You can even install DNA widgets etc., on to blogs.  Lots of people don't know about it  so why not have a look.

Anyway, it's 2.15am very early Monday morning.  I'm off to bed now. Have a good day everyone,

~~~ Sue ~~~
Squares from Austria today! (Fri) and Up-dated Saturday Squares (UK).
Hi Everyone!
Friday evening, weekend arriving! Anything nice planned?
Today I had beautiful 'Flower Squares' come in from Elke in Austria.  I am sure you will agree they are so....pretty.  It just shows you how adaptable a Granny Square can be! The pretty little Flower in the Centre is just marvellous.
All the way from Austria, thank you so much Elke. Just wonderful!
Aren't they just lovely? Thank you so much Elke, I really appreciate your help.  The Squares are just wonderful. I can't wait to use them in the Flower Blanket.
You must of heard about our 'Flower Square' Challenge.  Now it ends  on 31st May, not that long in fact. You still have time to make a Square. It can be any sort of 'Flower Square' pattern there are loads on the internet and in the side bar there is a video link that Luna posted.  We're having such fun making the Squares for the different Challenges.  Of course as I have said many times before you certainly don't have to take part in the Challenges.  The Challenges are just there for us to get ideas. It's only the Challenges that have deadlines. I still need Squares and there's no hurry for those, anytime!
What a nice thing to do this weekend! Make a 'Flower Square!'.  You should know by now that I have made 10 SIBOL Blankets for the Elderly. Work that out 10 Blankets x 25 Squares in each = '250' I have used already.  I have over 300 left ready to be made in to Blankets. All the Blankets will be donated to Nursing Homes around November just in time for Christmas.  It may seem like a daunting task, but I love making the Blankets and I really couldn't do it without your help. I thank you all so much for your support.
It's also very nice for me to get to know you all.
I do hope you will read previous posts too.  It's always nice to see Squares that have come in. I hope you go back and read Kim's post and I thank her very much for helping me in my project.
I hope you all have a good weekend. Thank you all for following me. If there is any questions about SIBOL please do not hesitate to mail me. sueatpigsty@talktalk.net
Bye for now Sue x
SATURDAY UP-DATE!!
Hi Everyone!
I'm so pleased to show you Sally's Squares 'Chunky Hooker'.  She's very kindly taking part in our 'Flower Square' Challenge and once again it's the traditional Granny Square we have here 'with a twist!.  She's added Flowers once again like Elke, but on three of the Squares there are three tiny little Flowers. So once again, something different.  Could you let us know where you got the pattern from Sally?  It would be nice to know where Elke got hers from too?
Beautiful 'Flower Squares', aren't they lovely? Thanks Sally.
So over the last two days we've had some gorgeous Granny Squares come in with Flower designs. Why not have a go? Our Challenge ends 31st May all are most welcome to join in. But as I've said many times before you don't have to do the Challenges.
I'm off to help Mr. Twin in the garden now, let's see if there are any 'real flowers' in my Garden.......
Good Weekend everyone and many thanks to Elke and Sally.
Your Squares are in the Slide Show.
Flower Squares & Blue and White and What's Your Favourite Square?
Hi there, I thought I would show you a preview of the squares I am sending to Sue for SIBOL
The two squares with the flowers in the midddle are Grandmas Garden Squares - pattern from Michelle at Loving the Vintage, her squares are smaller, but I made mine into six inch ones for this project.
This is my "Choppy Seas" Square, it has a sort of twisted shell pattern in it.
I was thinking back over the squares I have sent for the SIBOL project - and I think I have a favourite - do you have a favourite square you have sent - maybe you could show which one it is/was?
This one is my favourite - because it is in intarsia and took me a while to do and I was really pleased
with how it turned out. Look forward to seeing other favourite squares!
Speak soon xx
Ta - Dah! 'SIBOL 10!'
Hello Everyone who is visiting SIBOL today!
I must of all thank you all so much for the wonderful Squares that I receive nearly every day! It's such a pleasure to meet all my new friends and I'm really pleased that you are wanting to take part in my 'SIBOL' project.
This was just an idea I had back in January, and I had no idea then that it would become so popular! I have now made 10 Blankets since January and I still have plenty more Blankets to work on. I definitely wouldn't be able to do this without your help and I am most grateful.  All the Blankets will be donated to Nursing Homes etc., in November.
We have Challenges to give us different ideas for Blankets, but of course you don't have to do these. Any 6" Square would be most welcome.
Could I just say I am using every Square I receive for the 'Sunshine Blankets' and I do try and let you know when one is used in a Blanket.  We have a bit of fun over on Flickr when a Blanket is finished. We play 'The Flickr Board Game'. Flickr gives us the facility to 'add note' to any photo.  So when one of my Blankets is finished we all try and 'add note' to our own Square, so that we all know who made the Square just by clicking on.  I hope you will pop over and have a look yourself. There are many people who don't have a Flickr account I can highly recommend joining.  We have such a lot of fun over there.
I can't believe I have now made 10 Sunshine Blankets. I made myself an initial target of 6 when I first of all thought of the idea, and I'm just so pleased that I'm able to continue. So thanks everyone.
Working on these 'sun' theme Blankets I thought I had better put my 'sunglasses' on! Thanks Bethel from Australia.  Now only Bethel could have thought of that!
For Bethel! Thank you! Mr. Twin, Would you mind? Sorry to disturb you, I know you are watching the News!
Ta-Dah! 'SIBOL 10!' Thanks to all who contributed Squares! xx
The first two 'sun' themed Blankets are done. Some more to do, the next ones will be colour grouped! I had fun doing it and  I will be making some Butterflies but  I will  have to do them a bit later. I've got Little Miss. Twin (2) home today from work with a tummy bug.....
Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed a Square for the 'sun' theme. If you haven't seen your Square please bear with me I will be using it as soon as I can. I am going to get through them.
No Squares from Canada yet, so sorry I haven't got good news for you!
Any names anyone?
Have a lovely evening.
I am so lucky to have received such beautiful Squares.
Isolde very kindly wrote us a 'team blog' post last week. I hope you will check it out. She tells us about her Squares where the patterns came from etc., The colours are just wonderful. Thank you so much Isolde.
Ruth  has only been crocheting for around four months and I'm sure you'll all agree she has done extremely well. I just love the colours she has used. Thank you so much.
Brightly coloured Squares on Saturday!
Hi Everyone!
I'm thanking Maytauras (UK) today. She belongs to the MSE Forum and she's very kindly sent me some Squares. They are gorgeous, so brightly coloured.  Some will be lovely for the 'sun' theme Challenge and some for the 'Flower' Challenge. I just love them all. Can you spot the little hearts on some of the Squares?
Each one is just beautiful thank you Maytauras.  I will put her Squares into the Slide Show on the side bar for you all to see.
Maytauras (UK) (MSE Forum) very kindly sent me these beautiful Squares this morning. Thank you so much for Maytauras!
Happy Saturday everyone!
6 squares in pink & blue !
Hello everybody,
Sue invited me to write blogpost, probably because I crocheted a few blocks for the SIBOL-project ...
I am Isolde, just one day away from turning 38, married with 2 girls (8 & almost 4 years old).
My mother learned me how to crochet some 30 years ago. Almost a year ago I started crocheting again. For me it is a way to relax and set my mind free from 'worries' related to work, kids, etc. And hey, the results are quite nice too. I make amigurimi, blankets, bags ... all in happy bright colours.
For SIBOL I used pink and blue from my stash. A bit girly, I know, but I am a girl and have 2 daughters. Maybe that counts for an excuse ...
I just made squares, didn't join a challenge. I like challenges though, but in my free time I'm not so good at deadlines ;-)
I liked to try out some new patterns, now I also had a goal. I used two Jan Eaton books:
• 200 crochet block (1)
• 200 stitches for babyblankets (2)
And here they are:
Clockwise, starting upper left:
• wisteria (1)
• granny square (I just love making granny squares)
• four patch granny (1)
• a simple solid square (also used for for example the babette blanket)
And the other two:
left: harvest moon (2)
and right: warm red (only in different colors, 2)
Hope you like them.
And I am sure that Sue will find a perfect combination with other squares, despite of the girly choice of colors.
Flower Challenge/New Squares arrive today from France and the UK
Hi Everyone!
Thank you all very much for the beautiful comments I received about the 'Fun In the Sun' Blanket. Very nice of you  all.
I just want to remind you that we have the 'Flower' Challenge going on at the moment and it finishes 31st May, so please try and get your Squares in.  They have already started arriving at my home and it's always great fun to see what everyone is making.
I have to say you don't have to take part in the Challenges. You can just send me any Squares, any colour or any design that you like. The Challenges just give us different things to aim for. BrendaS2 the other day suggested a Blanket for Christmas using all those Greens, reds and whites.  This will be added to the Challenges later on. But that one should be great fun to do!
Challenge details are over to the right in the side bar.
'The Sunniest Sunshine Blanket Ever!' or is it? 'Fun in the Sun' - named by Azbelle (Sandy). Thank you!
Hello Everyone,
Well I'm back with you now after a short break with my family.  I hope to catch up with my blogs as soon as I can, but I've been finishing the first 'sun' themed Blanket.
Karin first of all suggested this Challenge to make 'The Sunniest Sunshine Blanket Ever!'. I would like to thank everyone on behalf of team members of 'SIBOL' for all the 'sun' themed Squares that I have received into my home in the UK, from all around the World.  You certainly do enjoy a Challenge!
Now I have to say I have enough Squares for another 4 Blankets remember 25 in each! So there is quite a few. So you are viewing the first of 5. So when all five are done you can then decide which is the one that has the grand title of 'The Sunniest Sunshine Blanket Ever!'.  I would however like to name individually all the Blankets as they are made.  So ideas are most welcome. I know a lot of you have sent in more than one square. What I'm trying to do with the first couple of blankets is to put 'one square' in from each person, so everyone gets to go in the first two. Then the other three Blankets are more 'colour grouped!' if you know what I mean. They are still going to be 'bright'. Maybe in some of the others you'll have more than one square in that belongs to you. Some of the Squares of course won't go in because I feel that they are for the other Challenges. Hope this is okay with everyone!  But please be assured that I will be using each and everyone of the Squares for Blankets for the Elderly.
Now remember 'Flower' theme is next. So your Flower Squares are most welcome. I am still waiting Bethels' Squares. I will leave room for you Bethel so please don't worry.
Remember, you don't have to take part in the 'themed' Blanket ideas.  You can just send in any 6" Square, all Squares are most welcome.
I have put a link up to Rachels Crochet Spot News in which 'SIBOL' was featured and I'm really pleased to tell you all that she has now put 'SIBOL' in her permanent Charity feature.  So hopefully we will be getting some more responses!
So please view the Slide Show now, and many thanks everyone!
Late at night all my friends came into the Kitchen with me! Click on your Square Ladies and 'add note!' Thanks
Please Mr. Twin! Would you mind?>
Have a good evening everyone and thank you!
