Good Evening All  SIBOL-ETTES

After a long, long wait.

Your squares have finally arrived in my garden.

But, I started two days before her.

We spent many a nights emailing back and forth figuring the whole blog thing out.

The rest is history.

She sent me 25 square to help put together a SIBOL blanket

I was thrilled.

I can barely contain myself when I look at all this wonderful

PURPLE

And for those who know me well,

yes, it has it's name.

The wild things is these squares are very well traveled.

From all over the world to the UK and then onto

my garden on the outside of CHICAGO.

The good news is I have some wonderful white superwash yarn arriving this week.

I can't wait to get out my

PURPLE DYES

and have a go.

First ever 'SIBOL SQUARE SWAP!' - Interested? / Squares from France and the UK!

Hello Everyone!

A breezy day here today in the UK, sun is shining, but we have also had spots of rain and it's a bit chilly still! Nevermind!  I have some lovely Squares for you again today!

The first set of Squares have arrived today from France and Kathy has sent them to me, thank you very much, they are gorgeous!

Kathy has been busy with the 'Spring Challenge'.  She has Crocheted Squares with the sun on! Just what we need, I'm sure you will agree.  These Squares send out warmth just looking at them. Also a beautiful Flower Square in my favourite colour Pink.  I am very grateful to you Kathy, thank you!

I just want to show you this book before I leave you.  I went in to the Hobbycraft store today and picked up this book, thinking there were lots of Crocheting patterns. It really was quite appealing, the cost £10.99. But when I got it home flicking through I feel that there are more Knitting patterns rather than Crocheting, so I think this one I may have to take back.  But I think it's new, so I just wanted to show you.

It's called 75 birds, butterflies & beautiful beasties to knit & crochet - Lesley Stanfield.

It says 2011 at the front, I haven't seen it before. Thought you might be interested.

Two questions for my SIBOLETTES, and Squares from the UK!

Hello Everyone!

Thanks so much for visiting SIBOL today! I know there are Ladies who check in every day to see the new Squares and I am really pleased that you enjoy SIBOL so much!

First of all before I show you the new Squares. We are asking a question over on Ravelry today. A Lady from Spain was asking me a question about Crocheting and I thought why not put it out to my SIBOLETTES!  So if you follow the Link why not post a reply!

The question she is asking is....
'Which Size Hook do we use to make the SIBOL Squares?'
and....
'What yarn weight do we use?

Now we have already had some wonderful replies, why not pop over and write your own reply?

Secondly

I wasn't sure whether to send off one Blanket or two for the competition. Then this morning  wiLDaBoUtCoLoR (USA) suggested why not make one large Blanket to enter into the competition 'more eye candy' so to speak!

I thought this was a wonderful idea and I've just got so excited all over again!  Then to top it all bonsall has sent in another Square for the Royal Wedding Challenge, it's so lovely. Thank you bonsall! What a fantastic idea!  I just can't wait to receive the other Squares which are on their way as I speak from as far as the USA!

So.....Ladies, if you want to join in the fun it's 9th March today, I really need your Squares in very soon. I know I put a limit on 2 Squares each, but a couple of Ladies are doing extra ones. So if you want to do more please do!  Let's make this a beautiful SIBOL Blanket!  I'm so grateful to every one that has  already  sent in Squares for this Challenge.  Can you try and get them in for March 18th?  I shall start working on them then, but I suppose if you are a couple of days late that will be okay.

Apart from bonsalls' Royal Wedding Square which is lovely, she also sent me Squares suitable for the Mens' Blankets and Ladies too! They are all beautiful Squares, thank you so much bonsall and I'm pleased you are using those odd bits of yarn up!

Have I anything else to tell you about?  Just to tell you, no the phone didn't turn up. Mr. Twins had to go out and buy me another one which he wasn't too pleased about, but it is quite a necessity I need to keep in contact with my Mother and of course the girls. 

Talking about my Mother, I have just remembered.... I want to show you a Pot Holder she has just made for me.  I had some free yarn the other day in one of the magazines and I gave it to her with some free Knitting Needles.  She was 81 this February just gone.  She used two shades of yarn and I think she said this stitch is called 'Moss Stitch'. You probably know it yourselves! I love it and will treasure it!

CHALLENGE UP-DATE.

Hi Everyone!

No Squares today!

Time to let you know how things are going.

I'm waiting for 'one' Jan Eaton Square to come in.
I have started 'Circle of Friends'.
I have 'Two Tone Green Grannies and Patterned' Challenge to make up.

The only Challenges we have running at the moment are:

Spring (Extended till end March.
Farmyard - End April

Royal Wedding Challenge - All Squares must be in by March 18th please.

The Story of Posy Lindas' Squares

Hello Everyone!

I do hope you will go back to the previous post and have a look at Mummy Cat's Squares and also the Square for the Jan Eaton Blanket which came in on Saturday from Rona in the Netherlands.

Today over on Flickr I posted SIBOL 57.

Back in April 2010 (I know its' a while ago) I received  beautiful Squares from Posy Linda in Florida in America, her Squares were absolutely gorgeous.  On the 25th April I finished her Blanket.  I asked her for a name and because I had made a Butterfly for the Blanket she asked me if she could call it 'Butterfly'.   Salma over on Flickr loved the Butterfly so....much she suggested I always make Butterflies as a sort of 'SIBOL' trade mark. To this day, I have made Butterflies for every Blanket since.

This is the 'Butterfly' Blanket I made first of all.



I loved the Blanket and it's now in one of the Homes.

Well the rest of the Squares have been patiently waiting for me to make them up. Today I'm showing you the rest of the Squares which I have made up in to SIBOL No. 57 with some additional Squares from bonsall, Ruth, Sabiha.  I'm really pleased with the Blanket.  So I've made a special Slide Show now for Posy Linda and of course anyone visiting SIBOL.  It's the Story of her Squares.



Just to say really if you don't see your Squares straight away there is a very good reason for it.  They are waiting for others to join them in their special 'colour pile'.

ROYAL WEDDING CHALLENGE.

With regard to the Royal Wedding Challenge. I'm wondering whether anyone would like to make extra Squares for the Royal Wedding Challenge. They are rather thin on the ground and I really need some more. So if you have already contributed for this Challenge and you'd like to do a few more 'please do!!'.  This Challenge is 'really important to me and I know you!'.  I really want it to be a success. If you haven't made a Square yet 'why not have a go!'.  Thank you.

Squares from the Netherlands and the UK!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you are having a nice weekend.

I have had two lots of Squares come in today,  first of all from Rona in the Netherlands.
I'm very pleased she is taking part in our Jan Eaton Challenge.
The Square Rona chose to make was Number 36 which is called 'Pink Stripes'.
I'm sure you will agree this is a pretty Square and the colours are just lovely together.

I am just waiting for two more Squares for Jan Eaton I think it is. As soon as they come in I will finish making the Blanket up, I have started already



The other Squares have come in from 'Mummy Cat' (RAV).  Mummy Cat has made three
Squares for SIBOL. My absolute favourite is the one with the four Squares inside. I just love
the colours in this one. So thank you Mummy Cat I am pleased you have enjoyed making the Squares
for SIBOL.

Can I remind you all please Royal Wedding Squares must be in by March 18th. We've had some brilliant Squares already but we need more,

'THE ROYAL WEDDING' Blanket' Challenge. 

You may be aware of a certain event taking place on April 29th. Yes it is the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

We are making  another picture Blanket this one to celebrate the Royal Wedding.
Would you like to take part?
What do you need to do?

I require
6" x 6" (15cms x 15cms) Squares Crocheted or Knitted.
Acrylic if possible please.

This has to be a picture Square depicting anything you like but it must have a  Royal theme/Wedding.
It could be a Crown, Wedding Cake, Royal Carriage, Initials of William and Kate, Doves, Wedding Rings/Engagement Rings. etc.,

LIMIT OF 2 SQUARES PLEASE.
Your Square must be 6" to be accepted into this Challenge
Must not arrive any later than 18th March.

I will need to make it up.

Spring Blanket.

I'm asking for some really pretty picture Squares for this blanket. I loved doing the Seaside Blanket and the Ladies in the Home just loved looking at the different Squares.

So can you Crochet or Knit a Square, it has to have 'Spring' in mind. Anything to do with
Nature. Butterflies (my favourite), Birds Nests, Birdies, Caterpillars, Bees, Spring Flowers, Bluebells, Daffodils, Crocus etc.,

Have a think and see what you can come up with.
LIMIT OF  3 SQUARES  PLEASE.
SQUARES MUST BE 6" X 6" (15cms x 15cms) to be accepted into this Blanket.

Deadline - EXTENDED END MARCH.

Farmyard Blanket.

Let's make another Picture Blanket, rather like the Seaside one again which we did. The theme is the 'Farmyard'. So let's have Squares with some Pigs, Cows, Barns, Tractors. Or you could make a Granny Square in the colours of the corn, grass, wheat. It could even be a picture of the Farmer and his Wife!

It's up to you.
LIMIT OF 3 SQUARES  PLEASE.

SQUARES MUST BE 6" X 6" (15cms x 15cms) to be accepted into this Blanket.

It's really strange lately because I've had a few emails asking me whether Ladies can make their own 25 Squares up for a blanket and then actually assemble the Squares themselves and then donate to SIBOL.
Well of course the answer is yes, if you'd like to do that.  I'd be happy to accept Blankets from you even if
they are 'one large Granny' using those odd bits of yarn up.  What ever makes you happy, makes me happy!
I would then be only too pleased to take them to one of the Nursing Homes for you.

I'd be most happy to showcase them on the SIBOL web-site too! Taking photos just like I do with the ones I make up.   If you like you can become a team-blogger and tell us how you have made your own blanket.

Squares from the USA and UK!

Hi Everyone!

I'm still getting over yesterday, what a fabulous day we had! Thank you all so very much for the wonderful comments I received on 'SIBOL'S' Anniversary.  The 'Giveaway' was just so much fun! Congratulations to Ellen and Cathy over in the USA for winning the two prizes.  I have posted both of them today along with Aishwarya's thank you Gift for setting up the Ravelry Group for me.

I do  hope you will pop over to the Ravelry Group, Aishwarya is thinking of doing a Postcard Swap if anyone is interested. If we get enough Ladies taking part we will go ahead with it.

Also thank you for comments on the Flower Blanket and of course the Friendship Blanket. Would anyone else like to leave me names for the Flower Blanket? I'm really pleased how this one has come out, I particularly like Flower Squares.

Well what a lot of Squares have arrived today!  I am very late posting. I have spent the afternoon trying to find my phone.  It's definitely in the house somewhere, I know I had it around 11.00am texting Little Miss Twins. I've tried ringing it but I think the battery must have gone flat. Let's hope when I have a clean up tomorrow I 'll find it.  I do hope so.

I'm so pleased you are interested in the 'Royal Wedding' Challenge, because I am having some wonderful Squares come in. Let's take a look now at the  Squares Joyce 28 sent in to me today! The Square has Crowns, Hearts and initials. If you look closely you can see the tiny red beads. Stunning!



Hasn't she come up with some good ideas! Thank you Joyce 28! I love your Squares. I'm pleased you have enjoyed doing them.

We move on to bienzfive (USA).  bienzfive has made a gorgeous Square, with great bobbles, a bow and two golden rings! Simply beautiful.  She's even Knitted a Square with Hearts on too! Just take a look at these.  I'm really pleased you have joined the Challenge bienzfive, it's great to receive your Squares.



Steph (UK) sent me three Squares today. Thank you Steph.  The first one is for the 'Spring Challenge'. As I was saying on Flickr it makes me smile every time I look at it. A Bumble Bee, look at his little face.



She's even made some Royal Wedding Squares, just take a look at her ideas!

Kim (UK) has sent me two Squares which are full of colour!  First of all she has sent me this delightful little Piggie for our 'Farmyard' Challenge and a picture showing a Birds nest for our 'Spring Challenge'. Oh I love this one too, both designs are so good Kim. Thank You! I can tell you have enjoyed these Challenges!



Next we have abbiezbabie (USA).  Welcome you are now a 'SIBOLETTE!'.  abbiezbabie has sent two Squares for our 'Farm yard' Challenge. Simply gorgeous coloured Squares 'Corn' I think. Wonderful idea thank you abbiezbabie, your Squares are just so lovely and I'm pleased you are taking an interest in SIBOL.



My final set of Squares is from Jean in the UK.  Jean has recently seen my Letter printed in 'Let's Get Crafting'. This morning I received a parcel with 44 Grannies inside.  All beautiful pastel colours. I am very grateful to her and I simply love them. Thank you so much Jean.

SIBOL'S SPECIAL DAY! / GIVEAWAY WINNERS!!

Hello Everyone!

Do you know what today is?  It's SIBOL'S Birthday!!! Yes, we are one year old today!  SIBOL was launched 28th February 2010 with the help of my on-line Friends all over the World.  What a busy year we've had.

Back in January 2010, I asked my Blogger friends on Mrs. Twins if they wanted to help me make Blankets for the Elderly in Memory of my Grandmother.  My Grandmother lived to 103 years of age and I absolutely thought the world of her, and so did all my family.

My Grandmother was very lucky indeed. She lived in good health very independently on her own in a Bungalow until sadly she passed away. Even then she wasn't poorly thankfully, she just got tired and fell asleep. She cooked herself a meal every day a 'British Traditional meal' with potatoes, meat and veg. She knew everything about the World, Politics and History. She was just so interesting to talk to and had many visitors.

I had crocheted myself lots of items, you know Crocheted Ripple Blankets, Carnations, etc., then I got to the stage where I thought 'what else shall I make?'. You know there is only so much you can make for yourself and your family. I thought I would like to make something for a Charity. Which Charity though? This wasn't hard at all to decide.  It must be for the Elderly in Memory of my Grandmother. So I asked my on-line Friends if they wanted to help me make Blankets  by donating 6" Crocheted or Knitted Squares.   Well 'Molly' over in the USA was the first to send me Squares, then Kim, Brenda and Karin.   I was amazed because everyone thought it was such a good idea.  From then on we gathered new Members all over the World and the Squares started pouring in.

My first intention was to make 6, we've now made with the latest Blanket today 56 'Sunshine Blankets'.  44 of these have already been delivered to Nursing Homes in the UK before Christmas. It was such a joy to visit the Nursing Homes and to actually meet the Elderly Residents. To be given the opportunity to read the names out on the Gift cards who actually contributed the Squares was just so special.  The Residents were really interested to know that Ladies from all over the World had taken the time and trouble to make a Square for their particular named Blanket.

It was our intention to send a little ray of Sunshine into the lives of the Elderly by hand-delivering Blankets to them and 'SIBOLETTES' we sure have accomplished that!" The 'Sunshine Blankets' certainly brought a smile to their faces and gave them Love and Warmth knowing that someone had made something especially for them!

So today 'SIBOLETTES' we celebrate our achievement! Thank you all so very much for the hard work you have put in  making the Squares for the Blankets.  It's been such a great priviledge to meet you all over the months  and you have all become such wonderful Friends to me. You are all so....talented,  kind and generous and I'm really so pleased that you think my project worthwhile.

First I want to show you my latest Blanket.  Now the one at the top is my Friendship Blanket, do you remember seeing it a few weeks ago? You kindly gave me permission to keep a Square and make it into a special Blanket for 'myself!' I  thought it was so appropriate to ask Mr. Twins to take a photo of me with my Friends! :)  So this was me Sunday afternoon.

But I have a new Ta - Dah! This is SIBOL 56 and it's a Flower Blanket. I really would love some names for this Blanket. I'm really pleased how it's turned out. Thank you to everyone that has contributed Squares for this Blanket I really love them.

Well its 7.15pm here Saturday evening.  I do apologise this is my first chance to write a post today. I've been out all day virtually with one of my Daughters and I got back to find two packages.  One was from Debi Y (USA) and the other from Maryfairy (Rav) (UK).

First of all I would like to welcome 'Maryfairy' (RAV).  Maryfairy has sent me some gorgeous Squares she has made for Charity.  I'm so pleased that she has chosen our Charity to donate her Squares to.  They are simply gorgeous and I am really grateful to you.  Such pretty Flower Squares especially! Ta - Dah! Introducing SIBOL No.55. Squares from the UK!

Good Morning Everyone!

Friday has come around so quickly!!!! I've  had a busy week with the gorgeous Squares that have been coming my way!  Today I received Louises'  Squares for the Royal Wedding Challenge.  They are so lovely!! Some really beautiful Squares have arrived in the week for this Challenge and all I want to say is please.....keep them coming!   March 18th is the deadline for the Royal Wedding Challenge.

Louise has used the Union Jack on one Square and the other one she has a picture of a Crown.  But she has also sent some lovely Squares for the Farmyard Challenge and the Spring Challenge.  I'm sure you'll want to take a look, here goes......



Not only has Louise sent in Squares but she's also returned the Blanket that she kindly made up for me. I'm sure you 'll agree she has made a wonderful job, and the method of flat braiding the Squares together has worked out a treat!  Louise has chosen one of the names given by my visitors to SIBOL. Congratulations Renee, Louise has chosen your beautiful name 'Flowers for Florence'. Thank you!
