Squares fly in from California (USA) today!

Hi Everyone!
Thank you for visiting 'SIBOL' today! I hope you have had a good weekend.

First of all may I thank Luna for writing a post on SIBOL. It is so nice to see the Square which she has made for the  Olympic Challenge. It's absolutely superb! Please go back a post and have a look. I love it. I'm so looking forward to making our Olympic Blanket for next year. All details are on SIBOL CHALLENGES. Anyone is welcome to take part. Your Square is beautiful Luna, thank you for making it.

May I also thank Roberta from California (USA).  She has very kindly sent me in some great Squares today. They are so....pretty.  Beautiful Flower Squares and a selection of Squares in different patterns and a variety of colours too.  When you think these Squares have had such a long journey! Thousands of miles they have travelled to arrive at my home. I think they deserve a rest now before my hook starts working on them!

I want to show you the Flower Squares first.

Aren't they gorgeous? I love the colours of the Flowers.  We also have  Squares in a variety of colours and patterns which are just so pretty!

I just love the patterns on these Squares, and it's amazing how different they look with each colour used.

Created with flickr slideshow from softsea.

I am very grateful to you Roberta, I am so pleased you think our 'SIBOL' project worthwhile. I love your Squares and I'm sure our other Ladies will love them too!

Thank you for the Squares and the Slippers! :) I shall be putting them on this evening!

I am finishing off my Farmyard Blanket so I hope it won't be too long before I can show you.

Also this afternoon I visited a Care home, so tomorrow I will be very pleased to tell you all about my visit. I hope you can stop by!

Thanks to everyone for their emails and comments, I am so pleased you are enjoying our 'SIBOL' project.

'A Right Royal Affair'.

We've done it again! 'Let's Knit' Issue 44 July 2011.

Hello Everyone!

Happy Saturday! Nice to have the weekend here again. Looks like rain to me here in the UK, nevermind.

I have some good news today.  'SIBOL' has been mentioned in 'Let's Knit'  Issue 44 Jul 2011.

Back in the March issue of 'Let's Knit' they brought news of a competition which Great British Yarns was holding to celebrate the Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.  It was called 'Wedding Bells' and they were inviting readers to take part.

I invited you all to help me make a 'Royal Wedding Blanket' and Ladies all over the World sent me beautiful Squares which I was so grateful for. We made a lovely Blanket and on  April 29th we were very fortunate to win 1st Prize with our own 'Royal Wedding Blanket'. Thank you once again to everyone that took part and I'm over the moon today to read that the magazine is showing a picture of our Blanket and also a lovely write up.

If you click on the picture, it will take you to Flickr and you will be able to adjust the size in 'actions' so that you will be able to read it better.

'A Right Royal Affair' - Well done everyone! So happy you've got recognition of your fine work! Thank You!

I have said many times how much I enjoyed making this Blanket, the Squares were gorgeous. I appreciated each and every one of them.  I do hope you will join me in making a Blanket for the 'Olympics London 2012' for next years Games. The Blanket will be sold on EBAY and all proceeds will go to a UK Charity.

I know we can do it again!  If you would like details please pop over to SIBOL CHALLENGES for all details. Thanks for visiting SIBOL this afternoon.

Will this Square give you inspiration?

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I'm so excited today because a Square has arrived for our 'Olympic Blanket' from Laura in the UK.  Thank you so much!

Laura has Crocheted a Square with the 'Gold Medal' in mind.  She actually deserves one herself for this fine piece of work. It's absolutely gorgeous! Take a look at this.

Fantastic Square Laura for our 'Olympic Challenge'. You get a 'Gold Medal' yourself for this wonderful Square! Doesn't she Ladies?

Well if that doesn't inspire you I don't know what will!  What a fantastic Square I'm so pleased and 'grateful' Laura.  Don't forget Ladies if you want to make a Square for our 'Olympic Blanket' please pop over to SIBOL CHALLENGES for the details. I'm also inviting you to make a Square for our Olympic Blanket which has the Flag of your Country on. So why not Crochet or Knit one? The Blanket will be sold on EBAY to raise money for a UK Charity. (Haven't decided which one yet).

Laura has also made a Square for our 'Winter Wonderland' Blanket. Now I have got enough white Squares for one Blanket already. I'm going to do a second one and then that's it. So get your Squares in if you want to have a go. The deadline is a few months away, but if I get enough for a second Blanket I will then be closing the Challenge.

Square for our 'Winter Wonderland' Challenge! Thank you so much Laura for the Squares!

Great Square for this Challenge too, thank you very much Laura.

I love both the Squares and I am terribly grateful to you.

Laura (UK) Your Squares arrived today! Thank you!

May I also remind you the Jan Eaton Squares must be in by the end of June, the Challenge will end then.  Details of our Challenges are over on SIBOL CHALLENGES.

Thank you again Laura, I love your Squares! I  also have some good news for you tomorrow, but I must ask Mr. Twins to scan something for me. I haven't mastered the Scanner yet.

Please pop over to Raverly SIBOL Group and put your name down for our SIBOL Swaps which are currently running. Arien 156 is organising the Swaps, and they are very successful.  Thank you Arien156.

Have a great day everyone, thanks for visiting SIBOL today!

Beautiful Squares from the UK.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Thanks for visiting 'SIBOL' today.

I have two lots of Squares arrive today from the UK.  First of all crochet3love has made a Square for our 'Tropical Challenge'.  It's gorgeous, a beautiful Starfish. I love the colours you've chosen and it's such a good idea.  Why not make a Square for our 'Tropical Challenge'? Details are over on SIBOL CHALLENGES.
Thank you very much crochet3love.  I love your Square.

Here it is.....

crochet3love (UK) Your 'Tropical' Square has arrived.

Yes, I've been out in the garden, enjoying the pleasant afternoon.

Secondly, I have had some pretty Squares arrive from Rainbow Ribbon (RAV) (UK). Some of the Squares have very pretty centres, can you see? They are so...pretty. Grannies Galore! (UK)

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I'm very pleased to be showing you some Granny Squares which actually arrived yesterday morning. But these ones were'nt  delivered by the Postie, they were actually hand-delivered by Glynis. Now I have got to know Glynis through the Nursing Home where her Mother  lives which is St. Bernards. Glynis very kindly sent me a thank you card a while back and we've since chatted on the telephone.

Unfortunately I was out when Glynis called round and I'm so pleased my neighbour accepted the Squares from her. What a shame I missed her. I'm hoping to see her again soon  and deliver some Blankets to the Nursing Home where her Mother lives.

I'm sure you would love to see the Squares and she's also made some cute Butterflies too!

Glynis (UK) Popped to my house today, and guess what I was out! Her mother is in one of the Nursing Homes I went to and on Thursday hopefully I am going to meet Glynis. She made all these Butterflies, Squares for SIBOL! Wow! Thank you Glynis!

What a lot!!!!......>

Beautiful Grannies, what colours!

I couldn't believe it when I opened the bag! 3 Blankets worth of Squares!

Saturdays Squares and something interesting for you today!

Hello Everyone!

It's such a beautiful day here in the UK. The sun is shining and I've had such pretty Squares arrive today!

I also have something really nice to show you at the end of this post.

Well here goes........I am so always so terribly grateful to everyone that sends me Squares for SIBOL. The Challenges I put out to you are always so much fun, they bring in the most beautiful Picture Squares!

Now I've had three lots of Squares arrive at lunchtime.  The first ones are from Kianie (UK) over on RAV.  Kianie Thank you!

Kianie  has sent such a lot of lovely Squares some for our Challenges and some for other Blankets. Amongst her Squares were her Jan Eaton Number 57.  This one is called 'Arrowhead Bobbles'. Why not have a go at making it yourself?   Do you have the '200 Crochet Blocks for Blankets, Throws and Afghans book? It's a lovely pattern and I love the choice of colour.

Jan Eaton Square No. 57 'Arrowhead Bobbles'

A Square also for our 'Tropical Challenge' one for 'Grow me a Garden', a pretty Square for our 'Cupcake Challenge' and two Squares for our 'Textured Challenge'.

It's always wonderful to see what you come up with. I have now made a Slide Show for you Kianie. You can sit there and watch your Squares whizz round! What fun! Thanks so much I love them all and I am very pleased you took part in our Challenges!

Created with flickr slideshow from softsea.

The next set of Squares have come in from WoolyGreenDragon (UK) on RAV.  I am most grateful to you also and I absolutely love the variegated yarn you have used  in the Squares. The yarn is just so soft too, such yummy yarn! I think my favourite Square is the lilac and blue one, but of course I love them all, thank you.

WoolyGreenDragon (RAV) Your Squares arrived today! Thank you!

I love taking photos of the Squares for our SIBOL web site. I expect you wonder why do I post a photo and then make a Slide Show underneath, showing the same Squares sometime.  The reason being I will one day be sending my order off to have the SIBOL web site put into a Book and I don't think the Slide Shows will run in print :)  I actually had one done for 'Mrs Twins' and it so nice to have a paper copy of your work just in case one day we loose it all on here. Computers are okay when they are working, when they are not, it's a worry in my opinion.

I have made you a Slide Show too!

Created with flickr slideshow from softsea.

Thank you so much WoolyGreenDragon  love your Squares!

The final set of Squares are from Corien in the Netherlands.  Corien has also taken such an interest in SIBOL, and that is so nice thank you! Your Squares are so lovely! The two Squares for our 'Tropical Challenge' are beautiful.  Corien has used a Sequin and Bead for the eye in the fish and Sequins for the Bubbles. The other one a  Palm Tree.  I love these ideas and you've used your imagination Corien which is
what SIBOL is all about at times!.

Squares for our 'Tropical Challenge' are just wonderful! Sequins for the Bubbles, how cool!

Amongst her Squares were a White Square for our 'Winter Wonderland' Challenge, one  for our 'Two of a Kind' (two cherries!) and the last one a Square which has two shades of Blue in it and Corien hopes that we might do a Two Tone Blue Challenge soon. Well the answer is probably yes, but let's wait until we get down these Challenges first! Sit back and enjoy your Slide Show now Corien and thank you!

Well I'm sure you will agree some wonderful Squares to day!

Now before I go I have something beautiful to show you.

Blooming Marvellous

This photo was passed on by Mia On Flickr. She has very kindly left me the link. Now if you have time why not pop over and see what it's all about!

http://bloomingmarvellous1.blogspot.com/

I'm sure you will love it like I did.

Well that's it for today. I hope you have enjoyed looking at the Squares as much as I have had. I'm off to start my Farmyard Blanket if possible.

Bye for now, thanks for visiting 'SIBOL'

Squares from the Netherlands.

Good afternoon everyone!

Thank you for visiting SIBOL this afternoon.

I am very pleased to welcome 'Marianne' from the Netherlands to our Group.  You are now one of our famous 'SIBOLETTES' Marianne!

Marianne has very kindly sent SIBOL two lots of gorgeous Squares. I can see she has been reading the SIBOL CHALLENGE web site because she has made Squares for our 'Winter Wonderland' Challenge which are purely white Squares and she has also sent some Squares for  the 'Grow me a Garden' Challenge.
I particularly love the shade of Green she has used in the Flower Squares.

I had doubts initially about doing a Winter Wonderland Blanket, but it's really nice to see such variety of patterns coming in for this one.

Look at these different patterns for our 'Winter Wonderland' Challenge, gorgeous Squares!

Created with flickr slideshow from softsea.

Thank you so much Marianne, I really do appreciate your help and I am so pleased you enjoyed doing them.

May I thank everyone for your wonderful support over the last couple of days, I cannot thank you enough.

Well I'm off now to enjoy the Sunshine. It's so hot this afternoon here in the UK!

Enjoy your weekend. I'll chat again tomorrow if I have any more Squares arrive and thank you for visiting 'SIBOL' today.

A Jan Eaton Square comes in today from the UK! /Make A Flag!

Hello Everyone!

Good morning!  Thank you for visiting 'SIBOL' today!

First of all may I thank you all for the wonderful comments on the latest SIBOL. They are always very much appreciated. I think Number 68 has to be one of my favourite 'Sunshine Blankets'. I love them all, but I just love......the colours in this one.

Today I received a Jan Eaton Square from Joanna (UK).  This Square is called 'Popcorn Corners' and it's Number 60 if you want to have a go. Joanna has made it beautifully and the colours are wonderful too! Thank you so much for taking part in this Challenge Joanna.

Joanna (UK) Your Jan Eaton Square Number 60 'Popcorn Corners' has arrived today! Thank You!

Gorgeous Square, I love it, thank you!

May I remind you all that your Jan Eaton Squares must be arriving before the end of June, so if you haven't already made your Square, can I jog your memory please?

Can I remind you also about our other Challenges. They are all over on the SIBOL CHALLENGE web site.

In particular I am very eager to start getting Squares in for the Olympic Challenge. I know this is a long way off but I am determined to get it bigger and better than the Royal Wedding Blanket 'if possible'.

If you are visiting our web site from another Country, which I know you are according to my revolving world in the side bar would you like to Knit or Crochet a Flag of your own Country? If your Country is taking part in the Olympic Games you are eligible to join in the fun here on SIBOL.

Or why not make a 6" (15cms x 15cms) Square with these Sports in mind.
Click on the link and make a Picture Square for our Olympic Challenge.

Thank you Joanna, thanks everyone visiting SIBOL today!

'The Story of Tinka/Martines Squares' - Ta - Dah! Introducing SIBOL 68!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you have all had a nice weekend and indeed Bank Holiday for those in the UK!. What a wet one!

I'm very happy to be telling you the 'Story of Tinka/Martines  (ATheeC Flickr) Squares' today.

On January 17th of this year I had an email from Tinka over in Belgium.  She was telling me that for the first time ever she ordered some yarn on the internet with a company in The Netherlands http://www.remyhandwerken.nl/

Tinka  gave links to Flickr and also SIBOL, and she very kindly told Gemma  at the yarn company about our project for the Elderly. Tinka enquired whether they  had any left over yarn that they would like to donate to our project. In return Tinka promised Gemma that we would put some links up on the SIBOL Blog. Well Gemma mailed Tinka to say that she was going to put some extra yarn in with her order.

On January 17th Tinka's order arrived and Gemma  very kindly  put all this beautiful yarn in with the order. How nice of her! 400 gr extra yarn for SIBOL, 16 skeins of 25 gram! Look at this great donation in lovely colors:

What beautiful yarn! Tinka has been working very hard making her Squares for SIBOL, and here are her finished Squares.

These Squares arrived on April 26th.

ATheeC (Belgium) Your Squares have arrived today! Thank You!

Tinka also sent me an email asking me whether I could put the Pink and Blue Squares in a particular order for her in one of the Sunshine Blankets.

So......this is what I have come up with. I do hope you like the finished Blanket Tinka and Gemma.

Can you spot the Pink and Blue Squares made with the donated yarn?

I have of course used other Squares which have been patiently waiting to be used from other Ladies.  Thank you to the other Ladies who have very kindly contributed the Squares to SIBOL also.

When the Squares arrive I colour-group them, so Tinkas' Squares matched the other Squares beautifully, and they matched hers!

I know there are other Squares from Tinka  on their way to me and a few are in my Square stash ready for when I can use them.

I am so pleased that the yarn company in the Netherlands thought our SIBOL project worthwhile, and wasn't that nice of them to donate some yarn to Tinka  Thank you so much and please pop over to their web site! and look at their beautiful yarn!

I absolutely loved working with these Squares. I do think the Pink, Blue and Deep Pink is a wonderful colour combination. Of course having the correct coloured yarn to do the borders makes such a lot of difference too!

Gemma, Tinka and all the other Ladies now it's time to spot your Squares! Tinka would you like to name the Blanket or shall we ask Gemma?

I have made you all a Slide Show!

I am so grateful to everyone! This is a really pretty 'Sunshine Blanket' and I am sure it send lots of love and warmth to an Elderly person. The Blanket has been named 'Bubblegum' by ATheeC and Annelinde. Thank you!

Creative stitches

Copy (1) of IMG_1234

A little while ago Mrs T offered free tickets for the creative stitches and hobby crafts show over at Aintree race course. I had thought about going anyway. Well I was lucky enough to win them and went on Saturday. Of course as soon as I got there my camera battery went dead and I had limited charge on my phone. (I have no idea how to get pictures off the phone and onto the computer any way.) I did get a few pictures of the RNLI installation. Its all knitted, down to the last pebble. Fun don’t you think?

IMG_1234IMG_1234IMG_1236

I had a great, if tiring day and was parted with some cash for these lovely beauties.

Thank you Sue.

Our Prize for SIBOL! 'Yummy Yarn!

Hello Everyone!
I do hope you had a nice weekend! A very breezy day here in the UK today......

Now a few months ago I noticed an article in the 'Let's Knit' March issue No 40 called 'Wedding Bells'. Sharon Spencer of Great British Yarns was running a special competition to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Participants were asked to Knit or Crochet something to mark the occasion.

As a Group which specialises in making 'Sunshine Blankets' for the Elderly I thought instantly what a wonderful project this would be for our Group! Why not make a special Blanket to celebrate the Wedding and send it along to Sharon. So I put the idea out on to our SIBOL Web site. I was amazed because you all thought what a wonderful idea this was and soon after the Squares started coming in.

Set 1
Set 2

Such beautiful Squares, wonderfully Knitted and Crocheted. I gave you a deadline and soon after I started making the Royal Wedding Blanket. After lots of sorting out and planning the Blanket I started Crocheting them together. At last it was finished!

So I sent it off to Great British Yarns. On April 29th I had an email from Sharon to say that we had won First Prize in her Wedding Bells competition. I was over the moon for us all, and when I told you, you were excited too!  It was fantastic to know that we had done well with the competition.

We had such an exciting run up to the Wedding I was approached by Yahoo UK Media Relations asking whether I'd  allow our Royal Wedding Blanket to be used as the Header photo  on their new Flickr Group 'The People's Royal Wedding Album' because they loved it so much. I was also approached by CNN ireport to send our Blanket up to them. Crochet Today over in the States mailed me to say our Blanket was going on their web site and Yahoo/ Flickr Storify put our Blanket on their site too! We had such an exciting time running up to the Royal Wedding Day. It's all thanks to you!

To top it all the Blanket and other items sent to Sharon were put on EBAY. While watching the Wedding I was keeping my eye on the bidding, and particularly at the end when our Blanket raised £112.00! The other items did very well too and if you'd like to see them please follow the link to Sharon's blog. All proceeds were sent to the Prince William and Kate Middletons Charity Gift Fund and I would like to thank you very much for sending in the beautiful Squares without you I couldn't have made the Blanket. I'm so pleased the Blanket and other items raised so much!

Now our prize SIBOLETTES! Our yummy yarn! The prize was £50.00 of on-line vouchers with Great British Yarns.

I ordered some King Cole Big Value Double Knitting Yarn in various colours.

Pink, Lawn Green, Lipstick, Spring Green, Natural, Claret and Violet.

6 Packs for SIBOL as our Prize and I ordered one Pack for my own use which I paid for.
So here are the photos you've been waiting for!

Thank you so much Sharon of Great British Yarns and thank you to all the Ladies who took part in the Challenge. This yarn will be so useful to SIBOL. We have now made 67 'Sunshine Blankets' for Nursing Homes and as you can imagine I do get through a fair bit.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/sues_favourite_things/sets/72157623895296510/

Making the Royal Wedding Blanket gave us so much fun as a Group but also me personally and it has inspired me to make another 'special' Blanket to celebrate the Olympics London 2012. As you can read in the previous post or in fact on our  SIBOL Challenge web site I am proposing to make a Blanket to celebrate the occasion and I am inviting Ladies from where-ever you live in the World to send me a Square with the Olympics in mind or indeed a Flag of your own Country so I can auction  the Blanket on EBAY with my Brothers' help and raise money for a Charity in the UK. I haven't decided which one yet, but all proceeds will go towards helping others. Ideas are welcome if you'd like to put them over on Ravelry Olympics London 2012 discussion thread.

So there we are, that's all my news for today. No Squares in the post today, but I hope you have enjoyed reading about our 'yummy yarn' and our latest Challenge!

Bye for now!
