Thursday 12 March 2015

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We've reached 1,000 Sunshine Blankets!

Good morning to you all!

Thank you so much for visiting the 'SIBOL'  Blog on this very special occasion.

Today we have received a Sunshine Blanket from Jayne in Bournemouth which is
no. 999
So  a 'Big Thank you' to her.

As you will see it is a beautifully Crocheted Blanket and I know that a Resident is going to love it.
Jayne also made two Shawls for Residents in such pretty colours.

So what's next?

SIBOL 1,000 of  course!

Thank you to everyone that has made a Square for our special
Blanket. If you haven't sent yours in please do now.
I am eager to get the Blanket made up.

What an achievement!
Thanks to everyone that has supported the 'SIBOL' project
over the years.

What started out in January 2010 as a simple project has now turned in to
something so much bigger. I orginally wanted to make half a dozen in Memory of
my Grandmother who lived to the age of 103 but  we have  now reached this
special milestone.

I'm  sure my Grandmother would be very surprised. I use to crochet her cushions in Green and White for her sofa but I have to say she never had a Blanket on her chair. I don't think  she would have liked one either if I have to be honest with you.

In  2010 I thought I would like to do some Charity work and thinking of who for wasn't hard -
the Elderly. My Grandmother lived in her own Home with her own belongings around her and with  many people  visiting her all day long.  Quite a few Residents go in to Homes with barely a change of clothes I have been told and this is why they become so attached to their very own Blankets.
They are useful for their armchairs but  I have also been told that they brighten  up their rooms too.

So please keep your blankets coming.

I have been blogging now continually  since January/Feb 2010.
It takes a lot of time to photograph items coming in and writing the posts etc.,  and I have to be honest I have had times when I think it's too much for me. So I apologise when  I have my down days!  Recently I made a few wee mistakes 'sorry'.

"I promise if the time comes when I wake up in the morning and think 'I've had enough' I will be truthful to you and tell you all and I hope you will  understand.  I know I will go out on a high knowing that we have made hundreds of Men and Women that  much happier."

I do still appreciate every thing that arrives at my Home  and I'm pleased that we can keep those lovely Royal Mail posties and couriers in work! So if you can help please do.
All information about our work is on

Let's get back to work.

We have to miss SIBOL 1,000 for a short time but we will come back to it when the Blanket is assembled.

So let us now go on to 1,001!

To start the next ones off we have a special Blanket.
It's actually a Cotton quilt from Charlotte.

When Charlotte first mailed me I had no idea it was a quilt that she had sewn herself.
I don't usually accept cotton as you know we are purely a Crocheting and Knitting Group
but as it is so beautifully made in every way I  know someone will be very pleased to receive it.

So Charlotte a massive thank  you to you for sending in your work.
It's a perfect size, a very pretty design and what a wonderful Gift for someone.
It must have taken you quite a while to make it thank you!

Isn't it gorgeous?
I love it.

Thank you Charlotte.

In closing we desperately need Butterflies and Ribbon  and if you think you can help please do!

There is a wonderful video tutorial here on
Netties Blog in Australia.

A massive thank you to Jayne and Charlotte it has been a pleasure to receive your work today! Thanks to everyone visiting our Blog and for everyone's support over the years too.

x Sue x

Up-date Friday 13th March.

Thank you to 'stricksusi1' today who has sent in her Square for our special 1,000th Sunshine Blanket.  The Square is amazing. I love the colours chosen and it's going to be a super addition to our blanket thank you!
