Lap Blankets otherwise known as our 'SIBOL' Sunshine Blankets make great gifts for the Elderly. Many Residents in Care Homes say how cold they are when they are up in their chairs. Of course you feel the cold more when you are not moving about. I think making 'Sunshine Blankets' is a great idea and our Group has been very successful in doing just that. We have now made 734 Blankets and the majority have now been distributed to Homes in the Birmingham, Cheshire, Dorset and soon East Grinstead area. We have also started making Shawls for the Elderly too. What a great way to keep our hands busy and our thoughts on others! It's also a very good way to use up scraps of yarn.
The Residents are always so thrilled that someone has thought of them.
'SIBOL' is a place where we can be creative and at the same time working for the Elderly so the design is up to you! Why not try a pattern out that you have recently seen on the internet?
Why not make at least ONE Blanket for an Elderly Person?
That's if you can spare the time of course?
Butterflies are always needed too. June is Butterfly Month and we desperately need Butterflies flying in to SIBOL HQ! We use them to decorate our beautiful Blankets and once again these are talking points in the Homes.

If I can remind you that the SIBOL project was started in Memory of my Grandmother who passed away when she was 103. She was very fortunate indeed living independently in her own Home until the day she sadly passed away. She had lots of family and friends visiting her every day of the week and even cooked her own meals a 'british traditional meal every day!' I realise there are many older people who aren't so lucky and it is to these people our project is aimed at. Very often sitting alone in Homes with no visitors. Wouldn't it be nice if you could brighten someone's day!
Please pick up your Knitting Needles or Crocheting Hook and use some of that un-wanted yarn.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.
