Squares from the UK and 'Let's go back to the beginning!'

Hi Everyone!

I have to thank bonsall (UK) for these gorgeous Crocheted Squares. Don't they have a lovely pattern,  very textured!  I love the colour of the yarn and I love the pattern. Thank you so much!

How are you getting on with the new Flickr sharing facility? I do hope I get used to it. I don't really know why they have changed it. It seemed to work okay to me.

Today we are going back to the beginning of SIBOL. Have you got five minutes? I thought I would show you the first set of SIBOL Squares.  When I first of all put the idea out to my friends who visited 'Mrs Twins' and also Flickr land I was amazed because everyone thought my idea was a good one. The Squares started coming in first from America our dear friend Molly.  I originally thought of making 6 Blankets, and now we have finished 59 with two special ones, the Friendship Blanket and also the Royal Wedding Blanket which I haven't shown you yet! 'A weekend Ta - Dah!' I think.....

We've done pretty well between us.

Now have you made yourself a cup of tea/coffee?

Here's my first set of SIBOL Squares that came in. The only thing is the Slide Show runs the wrong way round. I haven't mastered how to change it yet.  I don't know whether you have the time right now, you can always pop back!

Thanks for visiting SIBOL today and thanks bonsall!

Sometimes things don't just work out.

Hi Everyone!

I'm popping in to show you some gorgeous Squares that arrived today from mandas' challenges.
Amanda very kindly made some Union Jack Squares, aren't they just lovely?

With one thing and another these Squares didn't reach me in time. You know my deadline for the Royal Wedding Blanket was March 18th.  Well I did wait an extra week but as you can understand I couldn't wait any longer because I have a deadline to adhere to.

Our Royal Wedding Blanket is now finished, the border is crocheted up and I just have  a few  loose ends to sew in and a few other finshing touches to do.  I am terribly sorry I will not be able to use these gorgeous Squares, but I just wanted to show you all. It's so very disappointing they would have been so lovely in the Blanket, 'I am absolutely gutted!'.  With 56 Squares in the Royal Wedding Blanket, I hope you understand there was a lot of work involved and I just couldn't wait any longer.

Sometimes life gets in the way of things we want to do. Our Crocheting, Knitting, Flickr and Blogs have to take a back seat. Our family and our life must come first, so I fully understand.  I am really upset I can't use these Squares on this occasion.

Well that doesn't stop me from showing you these gorgeous Squares.  Amanda sent the three for the Blanket, the large one 'a special one for me' and an extra one for somewhere else to be used.

Thank you Amanda.

mandas' challenges (UK) Your Squares arrived today, thank you! But.......

Due to circumstances beyond my control I am 'unable' to put these beautiful Squares in to our Royal Wedding Blanket. I am gutted!

Really beautiful aren't they?

From time to time here on SIBOL, it's very nice to help others. There are always such wonderful charities on the internet asking for Knitted or Crocheted Squares, but the other day whilst reading one of the magazines I stumbled across 'Melanie'.  Now Melanie is a mother of 5 and has set up a project  called  k1 p1 project . Basically as the name suggests Melanie loves Knitting.  She collects Squares. But Melanie collects 'PURELY' Knitted Squares.  When she has collected the Squares she sits and sews them together and makes them into beauiful Blankets.

Melanie has specific guidelines with her Squares. Here are the details.

this project is small knitted squares sewn together into blankets and posted of to different causes around the world eg:- hospitals, climics, orphanages, care homes, homeless and the list could go on. if u are interested in getting involved its simple.to knit a square in dk wool using 4mm needles cast on 35 sts knit 58 rows cast off using chunky wool and 5 1/2mm needles cast on 28sts knit 42 rows cast of. also needed any unwanted wool would be much appreiciated , also collecting good quality teddy bears and knitted toys to send to children , contact me by e,mail melaniebaxter@live.co.uk

I know I have a lot of Knitters out there, let's try and help Melanie thank you!

Bye for now!

Squares from the UK!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I hope you all had a nice weekend. It's such a lovely day here in the UK, warm and sunny once again.

I usually have a Ta - Dah for you on a Monday, but this blanket is taking a little longer than usual. I'm doing the 'Royal Wedding Blanket' as you know.  Progress?  Well I'm doing the border now so I  hope it won't be much longer.  It has a total of 56 so it's over double than our usual Blankets. I'm having such fun making this Blanket up.  I'll post as soon as it is completely finished.

I've had two gorgeous Grannies come in this morning.  Even though we only have a few Challenges running at the moment I always accept Grannies and Flower Squares, so these two Squares are most welcome.

sistersestina (Rav) has very kindly sent me the Squares and I am most grateful for them. I do hope you enjoyed making them for our SIBOL project. Thank you so much!

Have you visited our Ravelry  SIBOL Group? Why not pop over and join us!  You know I have to be honest I never really 'got in to' Ravelry but since Aishwarya set this up for me I am really enjoying meeting new friends over there.  We've been having a nice chat on one of the threads about yarn shopping! I've really enjoyed that.

Aishwarya has organised 'Square Swaps' too, which have been very popular.  I'm sure she would love new Ladies joining up and taking part.

If you want to find out what our remaining Challenges are please click on the link for the SIBOL CHALLENGE web site.

Well I think that's about all.   I'll post our 'Royal Wedding Blanket' as soon as possible.

Thanks for visiting SIBOL today!

Friday Squares from the UK!

Hello Everyone!

Another beautiful day here in the UK! What a wonderful week weatherwise! So warm and sunny, simply gorgeous outside.

Laura here in the UK has very kindly sent me some pretty Granny Squares.  I'm so delighted to receive them from her. They are made beautifully and in the most gorgeous colours.  Laura tells me she hasn't been Crocheting long and she loves looking at the 'Sunshine Blankets' here on SIBOL.  I recommended her to go on to You Tube because they have so many wonderful tutorials on there.

I am so pleased you enjoyed making the Squares for SIBOL Laura and I am very honoured that you wanted to donate them to our 'SIBOL' Group.

Such pretty Granny Squares, thank you!

I've made you a Slide Show Laura, sit back with your little one and enjoy!

Welcome to our Group, you are now officially one of our 'SIBOLETTES!'.

Squares from the Netherlands!

Good Afternoon,

We have a really warm day here in the UK today! Doesn't a little sunshine make you feel good!
It's so lovely to feel the warmth on your face as you walk outside and to be able to go outside without your
coat on is just wonderful!

Well I've had some wonderful Squares come in today from the Netherlands.  We have a new 'SIBOLETTE' Ladies, I am welcoming 'Hieke'.  I am so pleased you have joined our Group.

Hieke has very kindly sent me three Squares today. One is for the Royal Wedding Blanket and the other two are for the 'two tone Green 'any pattern' Challenge which has actually now finished, but I haven't made the Blanket up yet.

So many thanks Hieke!  I'm so pleased you are interested in SIBOL.

Square for our Royal Wedding Challenge! I love this pretty Square thank you hieke!

Such a pretty Square for our special Blanket Hieke thank you. I have made you a Slide Show now so sit back and enjoy!

Created with flickr slideshow from softsea.

I'm sure you will agree these are lovely Squares.

I have said before,   please don't worry if you are just setting out learning Knitting or indeed Crocheting.  I accept Squares from Beginners or more advanced.  If you feel 'SIBOL' is worthy of your time I would be very happy to accept your Squares.  Lots of Ladies feel a little intimidated because they see such beautiful Squares on SIBOL, and they think their Squares 'aren't good enough!'.  Well this certainly is not the case.
So please don't worry.

I'm plodding on with the Royal Wedding Blanket, still waiting for Squares to come in, the last few.  I will keep you infiormed of my progress.  I am still waiting for the Jan Eaton from Australia.

Well I hope you are enjoying the day whatever the weather is!  Thanks for visiting 'SIBOL' and taking an interest in our project.

Squares from Canada! and me!

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I would like to start my post by saying a big thank you to everyone who left comments on Flickr, 'Mrs Twins' and 'SIBOL' about 'All Tidy and Cosy!'  SIBOL No. 59.  I do appreciate your comments and I'm so pleased you liked the latest Blanket.

I have some Royal Wedding Squares to show you today.  Pattygloria (Canada) has sent them to the UK, and I'm thrilled to pieces! I just love the Squares she has sent, particularly because they have William and Kate's initials on! I'm sure you will agree they are beautiful. Take a look at these.

Beautiful 'initial' Squares for our Royal Wedding. Gorgeous and I'm so pleased they have arrived!

I have a few more on their way still from the Netherlands and the UK! I am pleased you've joined in the fun 'Pattygloria!'. Thank you!

Pattygloria (Canada) Your Squares have arrived!

Aren't they lovely?

I have started working on the Royal Wedding Squares but I am still waiting for a few Squares to come in from the Netherlands and the UK. I do hope they won't be long now. I'm eager to get on with the Blanket.

With regard to the Jan Eaton Blanket, I am still waiting for one Square to come in from Australia.

Can I remind you we only have a couple of Challenges left now. They are the 'Farm yard' Challenge and also the 'Spring Challenge'. Do take a look at SIBOL CHALLENGES.  I'm always happy to receive Flower Squares and Grannies too!

I picked up a copy of 'Simply Knitting' today and inside was a special 'Royal Wedding' supplement. We could have done with this a few weeks ago!

There is a pattern for a Knitted Union Jack inside, a Catherine Middleton 'Bride of the Year' doll, a Tea-pot Cozy, Royal Bunting, Knitted Horseshoe and Chimney Sweep and a Knitted Ring Cushion. All beautiful projects!

I think we've done okay though with our little 'beauties!' Don't you think?

May I thank you all for your kind comments and lovely emails I get. It's so nice that you enjoy our Group, but most of all our Web site! It really makes it all so worthwhile when new Ladies find us and they write to me and say how much they enjoy it.  I jump out of my chair with excitement, it's such a good feeling.

I am sure 'Teresa' won't mind me telling you. She lives over in the States and she was so....inspired by SIBOL and the work we do here, that she is asking the Ladies at her Church  if they want to start a project similar to SIBOL. Well I can't tell you how over the moon I was when she asked me how I started etc. She's even showing her friends how to crochet, isn't that simply wonderful! I do hope it will be a success for her. I'm sure we all wish her the very best!

I think that's it for now, have a good day everyone! Thanks for popping in to 'SIBOL'.

Just popping back. I sat and made a Square for the Royal Wedding this afternoon.
'Mrs Twins' - Royal Wedding. Horseshoe with Heart. 'Can't get a better photo!'

Not a good photo I'm afraid. I used Craftlon Nylon Craft Ribbon with Craftlon White Eyelet Lace.
You do a foundation row, and then on the next row you crochet through the holes as you go along the next row.

What did I do with this? >>>>>>

Good News for SIBOL and Squares from USA and UK

Good Afternoon Everyone!

Well another exciting day for SIBOL today!

I've had lots of beautiful Squares come in today and I'm so excited to be showing you them! But...before I do. I have something to show you.

This morning I had a parcel arrive...................

This morning I received...........

I bet you are wondering what's inside.  Well I will show you!

'SIBOL' is now Sponsored by 'Addicted 2 Knitting'. / Royal Wedding Squares 16/3 to follow.

A gorgeous selection of yarn!

I am very pleased to tell you that a few days ago a company called 'Addicted 2 Knitting' offered to sponsor our Crocheting and Knitting Group 'SIBOL'.  Of course I was just so grateful to them, and today I received this wonderful parcel.

It is so nice to know that in this day and age a company can approach you and offer to help with a project which is just so important I think. Our Elderly are so often forgotten about it's just so nice that this yarn will help me to continue.  I'm sure we will make some wonderful 'Sunshine Blankets' between us and once again a gift of a hand-made Blanket will hopefully send Love and Warmth to someone who needs it.

I am so grateful to 'Addicted 2 Knitting' and I can  assure you every ball will be used for our project. Please pop over and have a look at their wonderful web site. They have some great yarn for sale. Thank you.

Apart from receiving this wonderful parcel this morning I have had some great Squares too!

ed4448 (USA) has very kindly sent me in these gorgeous Squares.  The tiny flower in the centre is just lovely and I'm sure if you need to know more about the Square ed4448 will only be too pleased to help you. She's over on Flickr ed4448!

ed4448 (USA) Your Squares arrived today! Thank You!

I've made you a Slide Show ed4448. Thank you for the beautiful Squares, I just love the colours.

Created with flickr slideshow from softsea.

I have also had a beautiful Square come in from Mia Self (UK).  Mia has Knitted 'Westminster Abbey'. Just take a look at this gorgeous Square!  It simply is a beautiful Square.  This is where the Wedding of William and Kate will take place.  I  keep thinking that I'm going to the Wedding  with all this excitement on SIBOL!
I'm just so grateful to Mia for making this Square and I have already planned where the Square will go in the Blanket, 'right in the middle' don't you think?

Here's Mia's Square.

Mia Self (UK) Your 'Westminster Abbey' arrived today! Thank you so much! I love it!

Such a good idea, thank you Mia!

I also  had wiLDaBoUtCoLoR's Squares arrive from the USA.  I've been excited to receive these after seeing them on Flickr.  wiLDaBoUtCoLoR has sent me four Royal Wedding Squares, which are just so pretty!  Great ideas once again and I particularly like the Bouquet Square which has net, ribbon and beads attached. It's so lovely! .

The bouquet is made up of 7 little roses then sewn onto a flat crocheted circle. Ellen said she had to do it that way because  she  knew it would be harder to sew individually on the square. She  was trying hard to make it look like a bridal bouquet  and I'm sure you will agree it certainly does. It's absolutely stunning!

Just take a look at these lovely Squares.  Of course the other Squares are great too, I love the Union Jack.  It's so nice to know that Ladies in other countries are taking part in our 'Royal Wedding' Challenge.

wiLDaBoUtCoLoR (USA) Your Squares arrived today!

Thank you wiLDaBoUtCoLoR!

Another set of Royal  Wedding  Squares came in today from jean nock (UK).  I am so grateful to you, the Squares are lovely.  I think they are such good ideas,  I love them, nice to have some Hearts!

jean nock (UK) Your Royal Wedding Squares arrived today!

Your Squares are super, thank you!

We have also had a Royal Wedding  Square come in from Kim (UK). I'm really pleased you've taken part in our Challenge.  The Square is such a nice idea, and I absolutely love it. Another Heart with initials 'W' and 'K'. Two Gold rings too. So pretty!

Kimbles (UK) Your Royal Wedding Square arrived today! Thank You!

Thank you Kim.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone including the Ladies today who have contributed Squares for this Challenge.  The Royal Wedding Challenge has been so popular.  If there are any more to come in which are on their way could you let me know please. Sue - sueatpigsty@talktalk.net  I'll look out for them.

I've had a very exciting day today.  Beautiful yarn for SIBOL, thank you to 'Addicted 2 Knitting' and gorgeous 'SIBOL' Squares from our 'SIBOLETTES!'.

Squares USA and UK for the Royal Wedding Challenge

Hello Everyone!

I'm so pleased that you have been supporting Aishwarya over on RAV SIBOL Group. She has been working extremely hard trying to get the first ever SIBOL Swap off the ground.  We also have some new topics over there if you'd care to join in the fun!

If you have any topics you'd like to post please feel free to do so.  The RAV button is at the top of the side bar.

Also thank you to everyone that has said how pleased they are that SIBOL got into the 'Inside Crochet' magazine this month.  I'm chuffed to pieces as you can imagine, and we have had enquiries from it. It was a great half page article.

Well I've had some Squares come in this morning from Itty Bitty over in the USA!  She has sent me some gorgeous Flower Squares, I just love them.  She has also enclosed some Squares for the Royal Wedding Challenge.  I'm sure you will agree they are superb!

itty_bitty (USA) Your Squares arrived today! Thank You!

Flower Squares are always so useful to me. I just love them myself but the Ladies in the Nursing also liked them as you can imagine!

Here's your Slide Show itty_bitty and thank you so much for the Squares which arrived today!

Created with flickr slideshow from softsea.

I'd also like to thank Louise (UK) for her gorgeous Royal Wedding Squares. I just love the Royal Bunting! What a fabulous idea! Terrific. The Union Jack and a Wedding cake are such good ideas too. Thank you Louise.

lally lou (UK) Your Squares arrived today! Thank You!

Your Slide Show Louise, Enjoy!

I've been a little worried that we might not get an equal amount to make  a Blanket.  You know I usually put 25 Squares into a Blanket, so that's 5 Squares x 5 Squares.  Of course this Royal Wedding Blanket will be larger than my others, but I wanted to get an 'equal amount'.  So I thought I'd make a few more just in case.  I wanted somehow to incorporate the SIBOL Butterflies with a regal effect. I made these four Squares.

Mrs Twins (UK) I wanted to incorporate the SIBOL 'Butterfly' somehow but with a regal feel.

Butterflies - http://www.netspets.blogspot.com/

Created with flickr slideshow from softsea.

Thanks to everyone that sent in Squares today.  I'm off to sew in some ends now on the Blanket I am doing. I'm still hoping we get a few more Royal Wedding Squares in before the deadline. Thanks to you all.

Ta - Dah! Introducing SIBOL No. 58 'Circle of Friends' - ''Celia's Happiness' - named by Merchy

Thanks to everyone who contributed Squares for this Challenge. 'Circle of Friends!'. 'please add note' to your Square. Let's see if we can get each Square filled with 'add note'. Thank You!

Good afternoon Everyone!

I have a Ta - Dah for you.  You'll be very pleased to know that 'Circle of Friends' is finished. I do hope you will like it.

Merchy has very kindly agreed to name this Blanket. She has recently lost her dear Grandmother and I thought it would be really nice for her to choose a name in Memory of her Grandmother. Her Square was also the last to come in for this Blanket. 'Celia's Happiness' is a lovely name and I'm sure her Grandmother would be very pleased that Merchy has made this jointly with her friends. So thank you Merchy!

The Squares that came in for this Challenge were all so lovely.  I have to admit I was never keen on this Square but after 'finally' putting it together (it actually took me three attempts!) I'm really taking a shine to the pattern.

I would like to thank the '25' Ladies who took part in this special Challenge on SIBOL your contributions have been beautiful! I love each and every one of these Squares.

Ta - Dah! Introducing SIBOL 58!

If you are interested in our 'SIBOL' Swap which Aishwarya is organising please pop over to Ravelry Hurry up though, this months deadline is tomorrow! Have fun with Aishwarya over on Ravelry SIBOL.

Have a nice evening everyone!

Thank you!

I would also like to show you some Squares from the Netherlands.

ATheeC (Flickr) Tinka, has sent SIBOL some Squares from herself and her Daughter Annelinde.

Let's have a look firstly at Annelindes.  Annelinde started Crocheting a short while ago after watching her Mother crochet. Tinka showed her Daughter and I'm very pleased that she contributes regularly now to SIBOL. It's so nice to see the youngsters start new crafts.  Apart from the Crocheted Squares Annelinde has started Knitting too! So she has sent one of her Knitted Squares as well. Wonderful Squares Anneline.

Three Crocheted Grannies and one Knitted Square. I love them Annelinde Thank You so much!

Well done Annelinde!

Then we have Tinka's Squares.  Tinka has made some great Squares for our Royal Wedding Challenge. So beautiful.

Great ideas for the Royal Wedding Challenge, Thank You!

If you would like to have a go at the Royal Wedding Challenge there is still time.  I'm asking that the Squares be delivered to me by March 18th if at all possible.  Would you like inspiration?  Take a look at this mosaic I have put together.  I'm sure you can come up with other ideas too! Have fun with us and join in.

Squares already for our Royal Wedding Challenge. Want to join us? Deadline March 18th.

I do hope you have enjoyed looking at all these marvellous Squares today whether they are in the Royal Wedding Challenge or ones that have been delivered today! They are all superb!

Thanks for making SIBOL so....successful everyone!  It's so nice we are all working hard for the Elderly but also we are having fun in our on-line Crocheting and Knitting Group.  So nice to be recognised in one of the top Crocheting magazines and I just can't thank you all enough!

Have a great weekend, and I think I deserve a cup of tea now after all this loading up!

P.S.  Nearly forgot I have finished 'Circle of Friends' now. I will be doing my Ta - Dah on Monday there is a lot to look at in this post.  It's come out quite nicely I think although I did have to un-pick three times! I just couldn't seem to get the Squares how I wanted them.  They look so different once they are assembled.

I'm really going this time....Bye!!!!
